Ari shivered slightly and curled his feathery black wings around him to keep him warm. It made him blend in nicely with the dark room, all you could see if you looked closely was a dark shimmer in the light. His wings covered his whole body. It was not a hard thing to do, though. The angel was so small. He shivered again. The room was so cold, and it was worse because he was very hungry. Breakfast had been some odd sort of meat. Even if he could eat meat he probably would not have eaten it. The workers did not seem to care that he was a strict vegetarian. Though, he did not expect they would.
The young angel sniffed quietly. He wanted so bad to get out of here. Sometimes, he got to thinking maybe this was all there was. But then a person would come, and talk to one of the other boys or the girls and they would never be seen again. The others said it meant they were bought, so there must be somewhere besides In-Between. Ari didn't think he would ever be seeing it though.
He shifted so he was curled up on the ground instead of sitting. Now you could see a bit of reddish brown hair peaking out of the shimmering darkness, and a bit of pale skin at the other end that were his toes. The door to the room opened and he heard some people talking. He curled up even more, if it were possible. It was probably the workers, and he did not feel good enough to be the aim of their punishments.

Braise fought against the arms of the workers. They had him around the waist and another was securing his feet. These people had made his life a living Hell. there was no way he was making it a piece of cake for them to move him from one cell to the other. He didn't even know why he was being moved. He'd done nothing wrong. Of course, here, they didn't need an excuse to beat you to within an inch of your life.
He growled and kicked out, catching one worker in the shoulder, successfully earning him his own swift kick to the stomach which doubled him over. Trying to catch his breath, his vision blurry from not being fed, he watched a door open ahead. The two workers holding him walked forward and dumped him on the floor, kicking at him until he scrabbled onto his palms and knees and crawled inside. Where once he had courage just a moment ago, there was nothing but an unfeeling void now. They had succeeded. They'd moved him and now he would be stuck in another cell all alone. The wolf child howled his pain before getting up when the door clanged shut, scratching and crying against the cold, unforgiving metal.
Braise only stopped when he was out of breath and shivering, turning to pull his knees up to his chest. That's when he caught sight of something curled up against the back wall. Was it another person? He crawled forward slowly, cocking his head. "H..hello?" His voice was raw and he coughed slightly to clear the burning.

Ari moved closer to the wall, starting to get a little scared. It seemed that the workers were bringing in a new pet, and the pet was not happy about it. He assumed it was some kind of dog anthro or a wolf anthro... or maybe a werewolf? The angel hoped his new cell mate would not hurt him. The Other sounded so angry. Finally, after a long few minutes, the growling and scratching ended.
He heard something inching towards him. "H...hello?" a scratching voice called. Ari turned a little and lifted one of his dark wings so his light brown eyes were showing. In the dim light it was hard to see what the person looked like, but he could tell he had a tail and did not seem to want to hurt him.
"...Y-yes?" he said softly.

"So, you are a person," he grinned kindly, licking at his split lip. The taste of copper teased his taste buds and he scrunched up his nose. Being half wolf you would expect him to enjoy the taste of blood. Not so. After spending so much time in here, he couldn't even stand the taste of blood. He crawled forward a few more inches until the bruised bone of his wrist gave out and he fell forward with a soft cry. He sniffled and just lay there on his stomach, bringing his arms up to fold uner his head.
"Sorry if I scared you...i'm just tired of letting them treat me like dirt without giving them trouble about it....." He studied the other, trying to pry features from the darkness. He was unsuccessful. The only thing he could make out in the dark was wings. Beautiful wings that were shielding the other boy-he presumed this from the tone of the voice. His tail curled over his back and he cocked his head in curiosity.
"My name's Braise....what's yours?"

Ari looked the other boy over with concern. It was obvious he was hurt; you don't just cry out in pain for no reason. "...Ari," he said quietly, never one to speak too loudly. His wings moved behind him as he sat up. Now you could fully see him.. well, as good as possible in the dim light. He had a mop of reddish brown hair on the top of his head and wore raggy old brown clothes but no shoes.
"Are you... hurt?" he questioned. It had been a long time since he had talked to anyone. He squinted in the dark to try to get a good look at the other boy. If he could, he wanted to help make Braise feel better. There was not much they could do in the cell though.

"Mmm..just a little," he confirmed, downplaying what he believed was a twisted wrist and several cracked ribs, opting to stay laying down unless he wanted to further injure himself. He studied Ari, his eyes letting him see more of the boy since his animal was pretty good at seeing in the dark. The other was small, very small and kind of cute. Braise flushed dark red. He'd never thought that about somebody else, though he had found himself studying the males in the In Between. He'd never had the interest to look at the females though he didn't know if that was right or wrong.
Sighing against the dirty floor he tried sitting up, clenching his jaw against the pain. Ari's voice was soft and he had to cock his head and really concentrate to catch every word.

Ari's eyes widened slightly when he realized Braise was trying to sit up. He scooted close to the boy quickly. "Braise, don't move if you're hurt," he said worriedly. Now that he was closer, he could make out the boy's sandy hair and pointy ears. If he moved his head the right way he could even see his golden brown eyes.
He was not exactly sure what to do, he wasn't a doctor or anything close to one. But he knew that when something hurt you were not supposed to move or it could get worse. "M-maybe I should look?" he asked. "I might be able to help."

He grimaced and listening to Ari, laid back down. "Um...s..sure i guess," he spoke through the pain, cursing the workers who had brought him in. Though, if he had known he was going to have such a favorable cell mate he wouldn't have fought so hard.
He never had anyone who wanted to help him out before without payment so he gingerly turned to lay on his back, a little suspicious-which he couldn't help, looking at the other. Now he could make out the mop of messy hair on his head and the tint of his smooth skin. "I think...it's my ribs...maybe a twisted wrist?" He rose sandy eyebrows and relaxed, untensing muscles that were making the pain worse.

Ari nodded slightly. He gingerly grabbed Braise's hand and studied his wrist. It was definately twisted. He gently placed it back on the ground then touched the boy's side gently. Even through the boy's shirt he could feel that something was wrong. "We should... wrap cloth around your injuries, right?" he asked nervously. "Would that help?"

Braise shrugged, his lips attempting to quirk into a smile to reassure the other. "I don't know...it might but where would we get any?" He had no idea how to bind wounds. He'd had enough yes, but none of the workers cared enough to help him out. What he did know was that even Ari's light touch sent the muscles in his chest quivering with pain. Maybe a few of those well placed kicks had been bad after all.....

"True...," Ari said softly. He worried his bottom lip for a moment. Even if they did by chance find some suitable cloth, he did not think he would tie it right. "Maybe... you can try to sleep?" he asked. "Things get better if you sleep... and maybe by the time you wake up I can think of something."

He pouted, tucking his arms under his head for a pillow. His wrist twinged painfully but he ignored it. "I guess I can try to sleep...but the workers may come back....." He didn't want to admit he was afraid of sleeping in this place. He had been ever since he'd come here and asked for something good to eat. That'd earned him his first beating and ever since, he'd kept alert while resting his eyes. And the wolf child was too proud to own up to it. But now Ari was here...maybe he could just...just for a little while, of course. He closed his eyelids over tired eyes, relaxing. Almost at once he was breathing deeply, lost in sleep, trustin ghis new companion.

Ari smiled when Braise fell asleep. The rest would be good for him, he thought. Now all he had to do was think of something to help the wolf boy. He layed down on his stomach and spread out one of his dark wings across Braise lightly, to keep him warm. The other one folded up against his own body. There had to be something he could do. The workers certainly would not help. He could ask, but then he would probably need some help too. And they more than likely would not have anything. So that was pointless.
The angel laid there in thought for a long time. 'I do have a shirt...' he thought. 'I could just rip it... it isn't that clean, but it's the best we have.' He decided when Braise woke up he would tell him his idea. In the meantime, he made lazy designs in the dirt on the ground.

The wolf boy muttered in his sleep. Nonsensical things that Ari wouldn't be able to catch anyways. He tried shifting a few times, only to find his body in pain so he gave up. He was warm anyways, something silky placed over him. Was he back home, in his bed maybe? He smiled at that thought. The thought of a nice shower, hot food and maybe a comphy bed to throw himself into. Of course, if he was back home, then Ari must be here too. Even in his sleep he could pick up the others unique scent.
In fact, it was pretty comforting. He scooted ever so slightly, face nuzzling into the others wing as he fell furthur asleep. He didn't dream, had given up trying to conjure pictures into his mind to give him a little hope of freedom.

He could not help smiling when Braise scooted closer to him. It was nice to finally have some company. And nice company at that. He moved closer as well until his arm lightly touched the boy's elbow.
They stayed like that for a long time, Ari was not exactly sure how long. Time in In-Between was hard to tell. Eventually, though, something had to happen. The door to the cell opened, making him look up fearfully. It was one of the workers. He stayed frozen on the ground as the man dropped a plate of disgusting food on the ground. His eye caught Ari and Braise laying on the ground.
"Not even gonna thank me for your dinner?" he sneared at the angel.
His light brown eyes widened and he started stuttering. "I-I..."
The man frowned and stormed over to the pair. "Say it," he hissed. "Say 'thank you'." Ari thought he was going to start to cry, he was so scared. Usually the workers left him alone when they dropped the food off, but this one seemed to be in a bad mood. "Stupid idiot," the man grumbled. He stopped in front of them, one of his feet landing on the wing that was over Braise's body. Ari winced.
When it looked like the worker was about to shake Braise, he muttered a quiet, "Stop!" The man slapped him across the head, not as hard as some but it still hurt, then left. Ari rubbed the side of his head lightly and sniffed. He hoped Braise wouldn't wake up, but he was already moving.
